5. TEACHING PRACTICE
5.1 - Procedures of Teaching
- First, I worked with my lesson plans (four lesson plans specifically) within three days ahead of my demo-teaching schedules. Later on, I submitted the soft copy of my lesson plan file to my critic teacher at Future Primary School and my supervisor from Dong Thap University through their emails and WhatsApp. After they checked my lesson plan, I made my PowerPoint presentations to be used during my lesson proper.
During my demo-teaching schedules, I started my class with greetings, followed by an energizer that is anchored to my topics to be discussed, and then presenting my lessons to the children and discussed it with a series of activities. After the group activities, I gave each one of them with work sheets to answer with the remaining time we had and check their answers, give rewards to my class for their active participation and also positive compliments afterwards.
5.2 - Time Management and Organizing Activities
- In my four days of demo-teaching there at Future Primary School, I'm very glad that I finished having my demo-teaching on time. I also see to it that I'm prepared always physically, mentally, emotionally and of course, spiritually. The procedures of my teaching activities went well, and I received positive feedbacks from my supervisor and critic teacher for that. I am really happy to see that my Vietnamese class, even though they only saw me for once in front, but they never fail to impress me of how they've tried to communicate with me effectively, listen and participated attentively to our discussions, and most of all, it is really visible in their faces that they are having a great time learning with me. And for me, it is the best experience ever, being a student-exchange student abroad.
5.3 - Problem -Solving
- I was assigned to teach English subject way back then during my stay there in Vietnam because I am really into English subject. It is my favorite subject after all. In my four days of teaching, I am happy that I wasn't able to meet problems that interrupted my class or even disturbed my personal phase and system at once.
5.4 - Classroom Management
- I have no problems encountered during my demo-teaching, aside from dealing with my class during group activities where I can't manage their naughtiness to bear with me. But all thanks to my teacher assistant who helped me in communicating the students using their native language in order to catch their attention and focus again to what we are doing. Children loves fun, so I must be creative enough in implementing my classroom activities. If I can't meddle with their "chitchats", I will just simply endorse some games in order to have their attention and make them listen to me again.
5.5 - Others
- Before my demo-teaching week, I was feeling mixed emotions: nervous and tensioned of the "what ifs" I had inside my head, like "what if I fail", something like that. But thanks God for being with me all the time, I beautifully ended my practicum successful, deal with the adorable Vietnamese children I handled and learned some knowledgeable lessons and suggestions from my supervisor and critic teacher for my further improvement in the field of teaching.
